I am planning to buy a new 7-seater car for my big family. I have an overall budget of about 12-15 Lakhs. I am hesitant to buy the Ertiga as it doesn't feel premium. I want spacious, good mileage, good power, all basic-premium features. I will use the car for a very long period, but with minimal running, as I will use my Baleno too. I thought about Carens/Carens Clavis/XUV700. But I am not able to finalise. I can wait for a few months before the purchase if something better is about to launch in future.

The Kia Carens Clavis delivers a more premium experience compared to an Ertiga. It is also very spacious, and occupants in all rows will be comfortable, especially in the third row, which has more space than an XUV700. You will get the HTE (O) 1.5L Turbo MT in your budget of Rs 15 lakhs, which is a strong performer. There are no upcoming launches that could meet your requirements; hence, you may go ahead with the Clavis.

The LED strip on the Creta is actually a daytime running lamp (DRL). Its purpose is to make your car more visible to other road users, not to light up the road ahead. For illumination, you’ll need to use the headlamps on low beam. If you find the main headlamp performance unsatisfactory, you could explore aftermarket options like higher wattage bulbs, but keep in mind that this could void the manufacturer's warranty.

The Ioniq 5 was too wide to park comfortably between stilts. Being 74, I want to maximise comfort, have full ADAS and preferably captain seats in the second row for long driver-assisted trips. At the same time, it should be suitable for daily runabouts, being the only car since my driving is not much. The only EV with captain seats is the BYD eMax 7, but since you have the budget of an Ioniq 5, we’d highly recommend considering the BMW iX1. It’s compact enough for city driving, and being narrower than the Ioniq 5, it fits more easily into tight parking bays. The ADAS features, comfortable seats for long drives, and the enjoyable driving experience make it a strong choice. We truly hope your motoring journey continues for many years, and that the BMW iX1 proves to be a rewarding companion.

Asked by: Raj V Time to change my 15-year-old WagonR, which has served me well. My monthly commute is less than 200 km. Majorly used for drives from Bangalore to Chennai (8-10) in a year, and also drives to places near Bangalore like Mysore, once a quarter. Please suggest an automatic car within a 15L range. I am thinking of Fronx, Amaze, Dzire, and Curve. Suggestions outside these 4 are also acceptable. The Maruti Fronx with the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and 6-speed torque converter is the nicest to drive, thanks to its strong and smooth powertrain. You’ll surely enjoy its driving manners on your Bangalore to Chennai trips. Alternatively, you can look at the Toyota Taisor, which is basically a rebadged Fronx. If you’re open to a hatchback body style, the Hyundai i20 N Line DCT is also worth considering.
